To those who think that one vote doesn’t make a difference, I have a story of two votes that absolutely did.

On primary election day, Tuesday, August 4th, I met a dear friend at the library to catch up. Of all the topics we covered, politics was the last, unplanned one. Because it was election day, I asked if he voted. I was stunned when he said he did not. He’s a professor and Bible scholar, who’s tuned in to national and world issues. He shared he was completely disconnected and disenchanted. He didn’t even know who was on the ballot. I came to his side of the table and pulled up the Michigan Voter Information Center website on my phone. I showed him a sample ballot, briefly told him what I knew about Abdul El-Sayed and Haley Stevens, the Democratic candidates for Senate. Soon after, we departed.

A few hours later, his wife sent me a picture of them with their “I Voted” stickers on. She said, “Your friend took your advice!”
With just one endorsement from a trusted advisor, he changed direction and cast his vote for Abdul!

I have a cousin who has worked at the Three Rivers, MI auto plant for 33 years! I joined an activist group to stand peacefully at a plant entrance with her UAW Local 2093 while they were on strike in June. Once I learned Abdul was endorsed by UAW, I reached out to her a few days before the election to ask if she would consider him. She said he had visited to support them and that she would be casting her ballot for him. She texted me after he won to say she had indeed voted for Abdul!

If the 1-percentage-point victory to advance Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, the progressive Democratic candidate and the people’s choice for US Senate, doesn’t prove that every vote can make a difference, what will?

Skeptics, know that YOU can make that difference! PLEASE register, VOTE and believe everyone’s voice, everyone’s vote, matters. VOTE this November 3rd for the change we deserve.
