Dear MDP Members,
Today I’m thrilled to share with you that Michigan will once again be a critical early voice in selecting our next Presidential nominee.
Today, the DNC’s Rules and Bylaws Committee voted to select the states to lead the presidential nominating calendar in 2028. They selected Michigan as the 5th state on the calendar, with our primary slated for Feb 22, 2028. The decision will be confirmed at the upcoming meeting of the DNC in August.
This decision affirms what we already know – for Democrats to have the strongest presidential candidate in 2028, it’s essential that the early nominating states represent the diversity of America, have strong election processes, demonstrate strong organizing traditions, and be crucial to winning the White House. Michigan has this and so much more.
I’m proud of the work we have done to highlight Michigan’s values and storied history. We build things and we grow things in Michigan, and we look like America. We look forward to welcoming presidential candidates to our state as we help shape the future of the Democratic Party and of America.
As a member of the Michigan Democratic Party, you are an important voice and energy and I look forward to working with you as we win this November, and continue to showcase why our state is essential to win the White House in 2028.
In Solidarity,
Chair Curtis Hertel
