JACKSON, Mich. — Democratic congressional candidate Christian Vukasovich on Wednesday said the results of Michigan's Aug. 4 primary election demonstrate growing enthusiasm among Democratic voters and increasing momentum in the race for the 5th Congressional District.

The campaign cited increased Democratic turnout across southern Michigan and noted that the results position the party well heading into the November general election. "Democrats turned out in force in the 2026 primary, and voters from both parties sent a clear message: they want action," Vukasovich said. "They're tired of false promises about lowering the cost of living and keeping us out of forever wars. Michiganders are demanding real accountability."

Vukasovich nearly doubled the number of votes received by the Democratic nominee in the district's 2024 primary election. Republican incumbent U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg received nearly 25% fewer primary votes than he did during the 2022 midterm election. "That shift reflects growing momentum in our district," Vukasovich said. Democrats are energized and ready for change. In both the gubernatorial and U.S. Senate primaries, Democratic candidates received more votes than their Republican counterparts in the 5th district, showing that voters are engaged and prepared for this election.

Michigan will play a pivotal role in determining control of state government, the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate.
